2) How can I get more information?

If you can’t find the information your looking for on our website please contact us directly on +41-44-200-2200 or by e-mail.

3) Why not use hs ELISA kits for CSF measurements?

Due to their buffer and detection range the CSF ELISA test kits are specially designed for the detection of amyloid beta 40 and 42 in human CSF. In addition, the CSF ELISA tests are CE certified and therefore ideal for in vitro diagnosis.

4) Do you have automated versions of the test?

No automated versions are available at present. However, all our plates are compatible with current pipette robots.

5) Do you offer ELISA courses?

Tailor made courses are available upon request, please contact us for details.

6) What is the difference between the CSF and hs ELISA kits?

The key difference is the detection range, which is 100-2000 pg/ml for our CSF tests and 25-500 pg/ml for our hsELISA tests. The CSF ELISA test is optimized for CSF while the hs ELISA is optimized for a variety of media. For a detailed comparison please see our CSF vs hs ELISA table.

7) What equipment do I need?

The minimum requirement is plate reader. However it is also recommended to use an automated plate washer especially when measuring a large number of samples or at least a multi-channel pipette.

8) Why so many standards?

Our kits use 7 standards to ensure an optimal standard curve and hence precise measurement of your samples.

9) Why the double measurement of samples?

We strongly recommend that all sample should be measured twice in order to minimise any errors that can occur during the analysis process. Should the two values strongly deviate from each other it is recommended to repeat the measurement, preferably in triplicate.

10) Can I measure Amyloid beta in blood?

Yes, the hs ELISA kit can be used to measure Amyloid beta 40 and 42 peptides present in blood, preferably using EDTA plasma. Since the level of Amyloid beta 42 in blood is very low, the hs ELISA kit with its low detection limit of 25pg/ml is recommended.

11) Do you have any references about your hs ELISA tests?

Yes, please see our references section.

3) How many patients can I measure with one kit?

One kit can be used to measure samples from 40 patients. The test plate contains 96 wells, since all measurements should be conducted in double 14 wells are needed for the standards (2 x 7 standards), 2 wells for the blank (2 x 1 blank) and 80 for the patient samples (2 x 40 samples). Should the whole plate not be used, the remaining test strips can be used for further measurements but a new standard curve must be calculated.

4) What is the minimum number of patients I can measure with a kit?

Theoretically, the kit can be used to measure one patient. However, this is not very cost, material or time efficient. If the kit is halved, it can be used to measure two sets of 16 patient samples. The test plate contains 96 wells, since all measurements should be conducted in double 14 wells are needed for the standards (2 x 7 standards), 2 wells for the blank (2 x 1 blank) and 32 for the patient samples (2 x 16 samples) leading to a total of 48 for each set of 16 patient samples.

5) How long does each test take?

The test takes approximately 24 hours to complete, however the overall working time is approximately 2.5 hours per test.

6) How many tests can I do a day?

Given that the overall working time per test is approximately 2.5 hours per test, a trained lab technician can measure 4-6 test plates per day.

7) What equipment do I need?

The minimum requirement is plate reader. However it is also recommended to use an automated plate washer especially when measuring a large number of samples or at least a multi-channel pipette.

8) Why so many standards?

11) Is it possible to send CSF samples off for measurement?

Samples can be sent off to one of our local reference centers for measurement. At the moment we have two references centers in Germany but several more are planned in the near future. The next reference center will open in Ulm in early 2005.

14) Do you have a control CSF?

Yes, should there be any queries about the test process or performance, please contact us.

15) What is the concentration range of Amyloid beta peptides in CSF?

The concentration of amyloid beta 40 in CSF is typically 1000 - 10,000 pg/ml, while that of amyloid beta 42 is typically 200 - 3000 pg/ml. However, this can strongly vary between patients, hence the significant added value of the hAβ42/hAβ40 Ratio.

16) Do you have automated versions of the test?

No automated versions are available at present. However, all our plates are compatible with current pipette robots.

17) Do you offer ELISA courses?

18) Do you have any references about your CSF ELISA tests?

Yes, please see our references section.
