Tau Antibodies

Tau is an intracellular microtubule-associated protein (MAP) which when assembled into polymeric filaments, is the major component of neurofibrillary tangles (NFT). NFT and extracellular amyloid plaques have been demonstrated to represent the primary pathological features of AD.

Recent studies suggest that the proteolysis of human Tau protein precedes apoptotic processes in beta-Amyloid exposed neurons. Caspase cleavage of human Tau results in truncation at aspartate residue 421. Human Tau truncated at Asp421 assembles more rapidly and more extensively into polymeric filaments in vitro than wild-type human Tau (Gamblin et al., 2003)
